Given all maintenance including oil changes is included in the cost of the car for the first 3yrs , the oil is chosen by the dealership.

I just changed the oil myself even though the car only has 2000 miles on it. I went with the recommended Castrol 0-30 wt. Synthetic. Generally it is good for a 10,000 mile run. While the car does not have many miles on it the oil was probably a year old. I also wanted to see how things are put together in the Volvo. Mine is 2017 XC90 T8 Inscription

I use Mobil1 Euro 0W40 and Mann filter, change the oil every 3-5k miles depending on use, typically 5k.
